What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming?

NLP is a set of tools for personal change and development.  It offers powerful ways to create goals, reach them more quickly and with greater ease, resolve work or personal issues and reduce stress.

NLP is based on the premise that all behaviour has a structure and that structure can be modelled, learned and changed.  We are capable of performing both positive and negative behaviours excellently and this makes NLP powerful in terms of helping people who want to change existing limiting or harmful behaviours into behaviours which are more positive.

It originated in the 1970’s from the work of Dr Richard Bandler – a mathematician and John Grinder a linguist. They studied the work of three highly successful but very different therapists, Virginia Satir, Milton Erickson and Fritz Perls.  They identified and broke down the common language and behaviour patterns used by these successful therapists in such a way that could be learned and executed by others.

Time Line TherapyTM

Time line therapy was created in 1985 by Dr Tad James who applied a therapeutic process to the concept of an internal memory storage system.

In his view, your Time Line is the method in which you unconsciously store your memories of the past and your projection of the future.  Behavioural change generally takes place at an unconscious level – you aren’t aware of it.

The Time Line TherapyTM process lets you work at the unconscious level and release the effects of past negative experiences and change ‘inappropriate’ programming in minutes rather than days, months or years. In this way it can help you:

  • let go of negative emotions from the past

  • let go of limiting decisions from the past

  • create your future in the way that you want it

What is Energy Psychology?

Energy psychology is based on the principles of acupuncture in that it works on the premise that your body’s central nervous system is in a dynamic interplay with your cells, organs, moods and thoughts.

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a relatively new discovery and a fast evolving treatment within the field of Energy Psychology.  Its techniques can get to core issues and facilitate relief, change and growth painlessly and often very quickly.  Because the techniques are simple they can be used effectively as a self-help tool, empowering people to actively contribute to their own development process.  This facilitates a much faster relief process than has previously been believed to be possible by many healthcare professionals.

There is emerging scientific evidence which is helping to explain how EFT can deliver such dramatic changes.  In the last century DNA was discovered and traditional medical research took the view that the majority of our health is governed by our DNA – for instance, we inherit our physical features from our ancestors as well as our mental abilities and predisposition to disease.

‘Epigenetics’ (the study of gene expression caused by mechanisms other than changes in the underlying DNA) is challenging this theory, providing evidence that it is our environment that is the major influence on our well-being and ability to succeed in life. It views our environment not just as the food we eat and the place in which we live - but also the emotions created by the situations we encounter during our lives.

The most well known stress response – ‘fight or flight’ - saved our ancestors from extinction as their actual threat in the form of a dangerous animal presented itself the adrenaline response pumped blood from non-urgent areas such as the digestion and immune systems and the pre-frontal lobes – where reasoning, creativity and problem solving occur and sent it to the muscles, respiratory system and liver to release glucose into the blood stream.

Now, when we’re at work and under mental pressure, we engage in the same adrenaline response.  But the difference is that we need our brains to be functioning properly and, instead, our stress response limits our ability to perform well under pressure.  EFT can discharge the stress response easily by freeing you from the stresses causing it.  This enables you to perform at maximum effectiveness in whatever situation you find yourself in.
